May Day

On May Day people with lots of different customs get together to celebrate the arrival of summer and the end of a long winter.

On this time of the year the weather went warmer and flowers and trees start to blossom.
On May Day people have a traditional dance known as Maypole Dancing. In this dance the people of the village dance around a pole.
Weeks before the show the schools of the village practice this dance with their students.

At the end of the dance the result is a plaited pattern of ribbons round the pole.
The highlight of the day is the crowning of the May Queen.

Students: Eva (nº8) and Juliana (nº16)
